Talabat Suspended in Qatar Over Repeated Violations

Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has imposed a one-week suspension on Talabat’s operations in the country, citing repeated breaches of consumer protection regulations and misleading practices.

The ministry confirmed that Talabat violated Articles (7) and (11) of Law No. (8) of 2008 on Consumer Protection, along with its executive regulations. The action followed several verified complaints lodged against the company.

Authorities stated that Talabat was penalized for “providing false or misleading descriptions of goods, deceiving customers, and unlawfully obtaining money.” They further noted that the company failed to uphold service guarantees, marking another violation.

In response, Talabat Holding PLC announced that it is cooperating with Qatari regulators to resolve the matter and reinstate services promptly. The firm has also initiated an internal review to evaluate the incident and its potential financial implications.

Established in Kuwait in 2004, Talabat has expanded into one of the leading food and grocery delivery platforms in the Middle East and North Africa. It currently operates across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq, offering customers access to restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, and other outlets via its app and website.
