Ministry backs AI solutions for smart meter efficiency

Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Dr Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem stressed the importance of harnessing innovative ideas and projects to support the ministry’s digital transformation, energy efficiency and conservation plans, in line with Kuwait’s focus on sustainability and innovation. Al-Mukhaizeem made the remarks Thursday during a meeting with the team participating in the “2026 Korea AI in Action Program,” which focuses on applying artificial intelligence technologies to smart meters. The minister emphasized the importance of supporting initiatives that use modern technologies and AI to develop practical solutions to challenges facing the electricity and energy sector.

He praised the team’s efforts and its focus on developing a project linked to one of the ministry’s key digital transformation initiatives. During the meeting, he was briefed on the project’s concept and its proposed use of smart meter data and AI technologies to analyze electricity consumption patterns. Such applications could help improve energy efficiency, support conservation efforts and develop innovative solutions to maximize the benefits of smart meter systems, he said.

According to the ministry, the team drew inspiration for its project from the national “Wafer” campaign for electricity and water conservation, particularly its objectives and messages aimed at promoting a culture of conservation and improving resource efficiency. The team translated these objectives into an AI-based technological solution that uses smart meter data to support conservation efforts and encourage more efficient energy consumption. The meeting was attended by Undersecretary Dr Adel Al-Zamil and members of the program team, Noura Al-Rashidi, Ghaliyah Al-Mukhaizeem, Fawzan Al-Fahad and Jarrah Al-Mulaifi.
