KUWAIT: Following are events that took place in Kuwait on Aug 22:

1967 — Iraqi President Abdulrahman Aref visited Kuwait, the first visit by an Iraqi head of state.

1995 — The National Assembly adopted a bill on the prosecution of ministers.

2001 — Kuwait deposited the final installment of $5.92 million in the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem uprising funds, administered by the Islamic Development Bank, completing a total Kuwaiti contribution of $150 million.

2011 — Kuwait urged Syria to cooperate with the United Nations Commission for Human Rights and to respond to efforts aimed at halting the bloodshed there.

2014 — The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation signed an agreement with China’s International United Petroleum and Chemicals Co Ltd (UNIPEC) to more than double Kuwaiti crude oil exports to China over 10 years.

2016 — The tissue examination laboratory at the Interior Ministry’s forensics department received international certification for criminal laboratories.

2025 — Kuwait’s national wingsuit flying team won the fifth world championship, held in the Czech Republic.
